DXF and file facts
Facts about the file format every one of these machines reads, and the two file mistakes that ruin the most cuts. The design rules here are covered in full in our plasma cutting DXF guide.
December 1982
DXF was originally introduced in December 1982 as part of AutoCAD 1.0.

Group codes
In a DXF file, every data element is preceded by an integer called a group code, which says what type of data follows.

KraftDXF lab: our own test data
These numbers are KraftDXF's own, measured in our lab and published nowhere else. Tested in 2026. Method in one line: five test designs drawn as exact vector geometry were converted by KraftDXF Convert, and the DXF output was measured against the true design on a 0.25 mm grid, boundary point by boundary point, in both directions, reporting the lower figure. Five designs, eight conversion runs, kerf set to 0.1 mm as shipped. It is a digital overlay test of the file against the design, not a physical cut test.

97.5%
In an earlier test, a real customer design image scored 97.5% of its outline within about 1 mm, from a coarser source image.

5 mm²
A deliberately degraded test image kept 99.1% of its outline within ±0.5 mm, but lost one tiny 5 mm² corner feature. Small features are what a poor source image costs.
